are you part of the revolution?

because i am. i recently devoured(punny) the hunger games by suzanne collins and the sequel catching fire. great books! ALL CAPS GREAT BOOKS! i gave them both 5 stars on goodreads. and i don't do that everyday. i can only think of one other book for sure.(are we friends on goodreads? we should be. be my friend.) fun, easy, clean, creative, adventurous, motivating and exciting. plenty to think about and to chew on(HA!). and katniss is my kind of heroine. tough as nails yet vulnerable. like scarlett o'hara.

i purchased my mockingjay pin today and i think that just about puts me over the top for a very youthful and very hip 29 year old wife and mother of two. i was a touch disappointed that the pin was so ugly. but for $3.50 that's what you get. it's delightfully tacky, just like hooters. and refined, just like me.

i encourage everyone to RUN(like someone is trying to kill you) to their nearest bookstore and purchase these books. especially since it took me 6 MONTHS on the waiting list at the library to get the first one. if i had known it was going to be this fantastic i would have bought it outright and not waited. now that you have been warned-ask for them for christmas! cancel your other plans and read. start planning your ideal movie cast. i want to play katniss.(surprise!) i am already planning my katniss everdeen halloween costume. it should be ready by april. perhaps i will wear it for my birthday. who will want to go out with me dressed like that? the mockingjay pin is just the first step. i already own adequate boots and pants. i also need an orange tunic and a bow and a quiver of arrows. and some arrow shooting skillz. and some selflessness and courage.

the final book comes out in august of 2010. i hope i can make it that long. i would hate to tragically die between now and then and miss that coming out. what a downer that would be.

Thank you for the great book review! My 11 yr old son has been begging for the books for Christmas. I hadn't heard anything about them, but based on your review I now feel comfortable buying the books. One comment he made to me was worrysome. He said, "mom, if the book was a movie it might be rated R. Why would he say that??? Glad it's a good book! Thank you for reading it since I don't have the time to right now! Sounds exciting~!

Heidi we are NERDS!!! I think that not only you should dress up as Katniss for Halloween but at the bookstore when you buy the 3rd installment in August. And for your audition for Katniss--because you would be a great Katniss! You've got the hair and eye and skin color. You might have to work on the bow and arrow skillz. Did I say we are nerds?

I guess I better gear up for those deep discussions. My son finished the 1st book & just started the 2nd. I have some speed reading to do. Thanks for the heads up on the content. I'm surprised the book targets teens, but has so much violence. Glad all the shows on TV are crappy tonight, gonna hit the books! Thanks Again! J

Quite the books, eh?! I gave Ryan the 2nd one for his birthday in May...we really liked them both. He is kind of peeing his pants for the 3rd one. I'm really interested to see who's going to win out, Gale or Peeta... (I'm with Peeta, Ryan likes Gale).

I have been on the waiting list for a long time at our library too, but after your review now I know what to use my Barnes and Noble gift card on! I have such a hard time deciding, so thanks for the suggestion!

I've heard good things, but nothing quite as selling as you're review. I will go run to my library.

Thanks for the tip on a great book. I think I'll pick it up in July. I hate wating for the final book to come out. I'm not a very patient person. BTW the pin is fabulous.

So I moved! Holy cow, to Utah. I know you miss me!

Dear Heidi - I might just DIE if I attempted the hospital hill half. Please. I think I'd rather puke than attempt that.

Just kidding about the puking part...perhaps if my knees don't give out on me as I'm running this winter on an indoor track (boo, but way better than icy sidewalks or a treadmill), I could actually get back to you on that one...

OK, I have been thinking about my comment and I must modify it. Sorry I'm now adding my third (but it is my final, I promise!) comment to your post.

#1. Thank you for the challenge/invite to do the HH Half. I will ponder on that during the ensuing bitter months of winter.

#2. No offense to treadmills or those who partake of their goodnesses, as offense may have been given in my last comment. I happen to be blessed with shins that hate treadmills and immediately break into shin splints when I even look at a treadmill. But I wish they didn't. It would be a lot easier and more accessible to use a treadmill.

#3. I would not rather puke than run. Puking is gross.

OK. I'm so done here. Thank you and over and out forever.
