let's get scientific

i am only 16 weeks pregnant, but the sex of this baby has been on my mind for quite a while now. when i was pregnant with reagan i REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted a girl and i was quite upset(devastated, crushed, bawling my face off) after the ultrasound said he was a boy. of course i love reagan more than ice cream and sleep so everything worked out fine. this time around i really don't care either way what it is. honestly. i would even wait until birth to find out what it is if i wasn't afraid of being shorthanded on girl clothes if that's what it came to. every few days i get really excited about a certain gender though, like today when i was reading lachelle's blog, i was pretty sure a girl would be just great. but yesterday, while thomas and i were making a list of acceptable boy's names during the sunday school lesson(a very short list as it turns out) i was quite excited for a boy. so, what's an impatient girl to do in this situation? i got all scientific and i went to the experts. the chinese birth calendar. (click on the calculator option.) i googled the many options online and this one seems to be the easiest to follow; it does the calculations for you. some of the other charts had conflicting directions as far as mother's birthday or delivery age or conception or size of shoe you wear, blah blah blah. and this chinese birth calendar was right last time, so why not??? so, drumroll please.....i am (possibly) having a boy! sooper! too bad he will most likely go through life without a name since there are so few names both thomas and i can agree on.
two things, just for fun of course, let me know if this calendar has worked for you in the past and send me your ideas for BOY baby names. if i use one of your suggestions, i will send you a prize in the mail(for real), so make them good and creative and easily spelled. can you tell i like a good contest?

can you tell how i have no life these days? all i do is check blogs all day long. one more week of bedrest!

okay, i did the calendar thingy and it was right for sophie but wrong for ethan and grace. i think the ring/necklace test is a better indicator for gender (and how many kids you will have). i'd explain how to do it here, but it would take a while. let me know if you want me to email it to you. or convince natalie to drive over there and do it on you.

as far as boy names. i will submit lincoln in honor of tonight's return of prison break after its "winter break." no one should ever question how to spell it, and who ever has anything bad to say about honest abe? no one.

okay, there you go. what about a contest for girl's names? do you still like athena and scarlet? because i like both of those and i will submit the name genevieve as a bonus. when will you go in for your ultrasound? keep us posted

It was right for me!! Although (this is way too much information) but some of those chinese gender things didn't work because we think our little girl was conceived the week of my birthday . .. so depending on the lucky night - I was either 25 or 26. :)

When is your big ultrasound scheduled? Are you craving sweet or salty things? (this one was never good for me since I was so sick and hated food!) Have you heard the heartbeat?

Rob and I have problems agreeing on ANY names so I'm probably not much help. If it were my choice we'd have our name picked out but Rob really wants to wait and see her. Too bad we don't even have many options!

Boy names I like are: Austin and Logan. My husbands vote is for Steel. :)

lachelle-actually, i was a the doctor today for my 16 weeker and they have baby pics displayed all over the place. one of the babies was steele and i thought thomas would love it. i think it would make him a tougher football player.
my next ultrasound is feb. 21!!! i am craving sweet foods right now, but like you, the only thing i wanted for a while was water and a bathroom.
jess-love genevieve. please email the info on the necklace ring test!

Boy names are SO hard. Obviously, since we didn't name John Evan until after he was born. The chinese calendar worked for Sydney and John Evan.

I like...
Sawyer &
Sam
and if you ask Chris his favorite is Tuff...which is terrible!

When i was pregnant with Hudson we didn't find out what he was. The girls in charge of Chandler's afterschool program couldn't stand it so they did the string and pencil test on me one time and swore I was having a girl. Well, as we now know...it was wrong.
I love my boy's middle names. Well, I love their first names, too but the middle names are Drake and Brooks. I also like the name Griffin.

I agree that with a name like Steele - it would have to be a tough kid. I always tease Rob about it but we really might have a child named that one day . ... at least the one kid that he knows with that name is a really good looking guy! :)

Logan and I can't agree names for our future children. He likes the family name Gideon, which I do not like but I am throwing it out there for you. Going with the theme of president names, how about McKay?

FYI-I have seen different chinese birth calendars and they say different things. So my question is, what one should you follow?

valoree-griffin is one of my all time faves. too bad it is the last name of an old boyfriend. that doesn't bother me, actually, thomas doesn't like it though. also, reagan is the name of a crush i had in college. go figure!?

Ooooh...I really like the name Thatcher! Richard hates the name Griffin, too. But, that's coming from someone who wanted to name Chandler, Linus!

How about Bart??

How about Dwight? I think it's a wonderful name--a character on (in my opinion) the best comedy on tv even has that name. And you can keep the tradition of presidential names going on--Dwight D Eisenhower (he's even republican). Speaking of republican names...Richard (you can keep the "R" thing going, Lyndon, Gerald, Herbert, Ulysses (appropriate for the south) the list is endless!!!

by the way the chart was wrong with me. joshua was right, whitney was wrong. this is the one i used when i was pregnant with whitney and it was totally right.

Well it worked for me but what it does is alternate it's a girl and it's a boy every month. So...just like before God will give you what you are suppose to have.

Also I really like the name Henry. I also like the name Ernest but there is that chance he will be called Ernie which ruins it for me.

Miss you.

Good luck finding another boy name that you love. I was still trying to sell Damon on Joshua's name while we were at the hospital, luckily Anna was convinced that should be baby brother's name.

Gwenith for a girl.

Buster or Capone for a boy.

(I love this activity!)

It worked for me! I suggest Henry... I must admit it is an adorable name... Let me remind you that I named my child Heidi.... So you can send the prize to me! JK!
