the monster who created this great mess:
(not me of course, the smaller person in this picture)
how it makes me feel:
not mad, not sad, mostly just that emotion when your face scrunches up and you breathe heavily out of your nose all at once. exasperation? perhaps i should BOL? i am neither diligent enough to keep messes like this from happening nor fastidious enough to want to fix it any time soon. i am like a hamster on a wheel. why clean it up when that is just creating another opportunity for the monsters to mess it up again?
the end.
but not really.
perhaps in 20 years when my children are seeking their own fortunes far far far away and thomas and i have retired to the battery in charleston, i will not have to worry about messes anymore. each morning i will go out to my garden and pick flowers while singing, sooong! song of the south! sweet potato pie and uh, shut my mouth!
i can't see any messes here in charleston...

sometimes i wanna dope them up with purple triaminic and lock them in a room so they stay contained. doesn't really work as an option, though, huh??
hey, i've seen worse.
Are you sure you didn't sneak into my house and take those pictures?
at least you have the excuse of 2 kids for the messes. i would be absolutely embarrassed if pictures of our apartment leaked out. messes are just hard to prevent, and once they start it is a huge snowball effect. and the less i want to clean it up.
I'm with you most days, why clean it up if it's just going to look that way an hour later anyway. I am sorry to say it, but you don't beat my mess right now. Packing plus two kids makes for some serious messes.
You need to get one of those really cute benches/storage things for your entry way!
I love having a playroom so I can just close the door, don't you?
Those messes are looking very familiar just at a different location. I hear its great for their development. I just keep telling myself that.
My house looks exactly like that. Okay..I lied...it looks worse...much worse. Though, a friend of mine told me I could pay her sister who is home for the summer to come and clean my house. I have actually thought about giving up on cleaning all together and letting my friends little sis take over all the house work. It would be worth every penny. I see nothing wrong with having a permanent maid!
Kind of looks my house any given day!
And how beautiful is Charleston??? I need to figure out a nice retirement spot for Eric and myself....
hey, i will personally testify that it does NOT always look like this. heidi, you do a great job taking care of your house. i'm sure i will need this same sort of encouragement someday, so please remember the day i was kind and publicly wrote this.
Oh, I totally feel your pain! That is why when we built this house, I wanted a separate playroom that I can just shut the door and ignore the mess. Do people really do that? Not me! I still can't stand it! I love reading your blog, it makes me laugh every time!
I think you are lying and trying to pin all your messes on your two clean and adorable kids. From the mess in the hallway all I saw were Heidi's shoes and stuff:)
p.s. you know I am kidding right?
okay, you are really too funny! I feel the same way!
You look so great!!! You are seriously the cutest mom I know. If you guys ever venture out to Utah, you HAVE to come by and see us. It would be great fun. You can stay at our house! Yeah, anyways, and congrats on the run too.
I know how you feel about messes but in my case I am my own monster. My room looks like it was hit by a bomb and I have no one to blame except myself. I have been leaving out of a suit case since school got out since I have been traveling so much and I just keep making more messes. Could you come over and help me clean since you are a pro?
