apparently i do like babies. i'm surprised too.
having 3 kids is hard. not harder than i thought, but thinking and doing are two different things. and right now i can only handle one thing at a time.
athena is at 7 weeks today. she's sleeping for 6-7 hour stretches at night, and sometimes even longer. she is the gassiest baby i've ever had, and that's saying something. she graduated from the swaddler newborn diapers, which makes me really sad because those ones smell the best.
and is it weird that i'm still debating in my mind about whether i want her to go by athena or blythe? the double name thing isn't going to happen and i'm still not sold on athena as her first name. the whole time i was pregnant blythe was the name front-runner, but then i changed my mind last minute. pregnancy and delivery is probably not the best time for me to be making decisions anyway. she normally is just referred to as "baby" and i occasionally forget what her name is when asked by people i don't know. too much pressure!
since we all want to know more about me, here's the 411: i've being trying to be less uptight and more go with the flow about schedules, and cleaning and being nice and whatever, but that's just not going to happen. i'm not fun and i'm not relaxed and that's how it's going to be. poor thomas. i've started grinding my jaw in my sleep again because i can't seem to keep up with the housework. it drives me nuts! thankfully meatball still is on crumb control so he's on my team as far as a clean house.
thomas knows well how i deal with stress and he bought me some new running shoes for mother's day and i've been able to get out and run again. at the gym today it was mostly the geriatric crowd on the track and i felt like a gazelle compared to them. tender mercies.
my other stress reliever is reading books and since i'm mostly nursing, i've seem to have time on my hands to read. as long as those other kids will leave me alone. i've probably read 10 books since athena(or blythe!) has been born. however, due to sleep deprivation, my ability to recall what they were about is pretty low.
but life is good and i shan't complain, even though it is one of the things i am best at.

total sweetness. my trips are 6 now, and i still haven't figured out the whole house cleaning thing with all of them here. but it occurred to me that already 1/3 of my time with them at home has already passed...and this freaks me out. kendall and bailey turned 9 last week...that's 1/2 my time with them. the crumbs will just have to wait. :)
so happy to read an update! I have been thinking about you and wondering how life with 3 is treating you. I am going to read this post to Dan so that he can see how I am not the only one who behaves irrationally about incomplete housework and the demands of child rearing. And yes, 3 kids IS hard! Why not solve the name issue by just calling her Ursula? Whatever her name, she is a pretty little thing for sure! Are you coming home to visit that sweetest Sandy any time soon? Love you my friend.
I love that you have stress and complaining issues....it makes me feel less alone in this world.:-) I can't believe "the baby" is already 7 weeks old!!!
you are so funny. baby athena (or blythe!) is cute as can be no matter what you call her! 3 kids is the hardest. sophie just about killed me. but -- "it gets better." hahahahahahahhaa. no really, it does. eventually. i feel like i always read the most books during the newborn/nursing stage myself. and did i ever mention that YOU are one of the reasons i'm going to try and run a half-marathon this year? you're just that inspirational. i want to be just like you!!! :)
oh and p.s. i put a little present in the mail for you -- and athena (or blythe!) -- today that is from both me and emily.
heidi!! SHE (or blythe) is soooooo adorable, cute, pretty, you name it. i'm kinda glad to hear you are still contemplating calling her blythe, because i became really attached to that name while you were pregnant. and i think she looks like a blythe. but hey, my opinion doesn't matter.
and me and jessica are excited for you to get a little present in the mail from us! we hope you like it!!
Your sweet baby is so adorable. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is dealing with a newborn right now. :-) Mine keeps having diaper blowouts though which is definitely challenging my house cleaning skills.
She is so beautiful. I think either name is perfect for her, but I'm convinced a baby will eventually look like any name you want, so I'm probably not the best one to give an opinion.
Cute little girl...they grow so fast! I always go back and forth on my cleaning schedule, depending on ages/stages of kids. It goes between something small everyday, which I don't particularly care for because, well, who wants to clean everyday. Right now, I'm in the "do everything in one day" routine. I have one bad/tiring/work-filled day where all vacuuming, bathroom cleaning, mopping, and laundry gets done. Most of the time it works out.
You're still in that new baby stage where you have to figure out how life is going to work with one more person involved. Good luck...you seem to be doing well!
I vote for Blythe! It's one of my favs that I'm sure Blasen would never let me use.
She is so cute Heidi. I think she looks like a lot like your other two kiddos. I am happy to hear the adjustment to 3 is hard but not terrible. Good luck with everything, including the naming conundrum (IF you were taking votes-I like Blythe but that is just because I got used to hearing it while you were pregnant).
Athena (or Blythe) is a beauty! I love the picture os y'all together! A friend of mine pointed out to me that she hardly ever hears me call Charley Bec by her name...that I always call her baby or the baby. I guess when you call them that the whole pregnancy then it is hard to stop! HAHA! What do the kids call her?
